Best Fire TV Stick for IPTV: Which Model Is Right for You?

Fire TV Stick, 4K, 4K Max or Fire TV Cube? We compare Amazon’s models for IPTV – and warn about new devices that can’t install IPTV apps.

The Fire TV Stick is one of the most popular devices for IPTV: affordable, compact and quick to set up. But Amazon offers several models – and not all are equally suitable. Here you’ll learn which model is right for you.

Important first: Fire OS or Vega OS?

Most Fire TV devices run Fire OS, which is based on Android. On it you can install IPTV apps such as TiviMate or IBO Player Pro via the “Downloader” app.

However, Amazon has also launched models with its new operating system Vega OS, for example the Fire TV Stick 4K Select. Vega OS doesn’t allow installing apps from outside the Amazon Appstore – so no IPTV players via Downloader. According to Amazon, all new Fire TV Sticks will run Vega OS in future.

Before buying, check the product description to make sure the device uses Fire OS (e.g. Fire TV Stick 4K Max 2nd generation). If it says Vega OS, it isn’t suitable for IPTV with TiviMate or IBO Player Pro – a Google TV or Android TV device is then the better choice.

The models at a glance

Exact model names and generations change regularly. So look for the features above and make sure Fire OS is installed.

Which model for whom?

You mainly watch in HD: the basic Fire TV Stick is enough. It’s affordable and perfectly fine for Full HD.

You have a 4K TV: choose the Fire TV Stick 4K or 4K Max. The 4K Max is more powerful – you’ll notice it mainly with large channel lists of thousands of channels, which load faster.

You want maximum stability in 4K: the Fire TV Cube has a built-in Ethernet port. With the sticks you need an additional Ethernet adapter.

The alternative: Google TV and Android TV

As new Fire TV Sticks increasingly come with Vega OS, it’s worth looking at devices with Google TV or Android TV. There you install TiviMate from the Google Play Store as usual – no Downloader, no detours. Good options include the Google TV Streamer, the Xiaomi Mi Box or the Nvidia Shield.

Tips for the Fire TV Stick

  • Ethernet adapter: for little money you get an Ethernet adapter that makes 4K far more stable.
  • Keep storage free: the sticks have little storage. Delete installation files after setup.
  • Behind the TV: use the included HDMI extender so the TV doesn’t block the Wi-Fi signal.
