If you come from classic TV, you know the printed TV guide. With IPTV this job is done by the EPG – the electronic programme guide. Here you’ll learn what it can do and how to use it best.
EPG explained simply
EPG stands for Electronic Program Guide. It shows you directly in your IPTV app
- what’s on now (including a progress bar),
- what’s coming up next,
- and often the schedule for the next few days in a clear grid.
Many programmes also have a short description, so you can quickly decide whether to tune in.
Where does the data come from?
The programme data is provided together with your subscription and loaded regularly by the app. Each channel is matched to a programme entry. With us the TV guide is available for most channels – for a few, particularly small or very new channels it may be missing.
How to use the EPG in your app
TiviMate: the channel list shows the channels on the left and the current programme next to them. Press right on the remote to open the full programme grid.
IBO Player Pro: in the live TV section you see the current and next programme for the selected channel. The menu takes you to the programme overview.
How to set up the apps is shown in our guides for TiviMate and IBO Player Pro.
EPG missing or showing wrong times?
- Refresh manually: most apps have an “Update EPG” option in the settings.
- Check the time zone: if the times are off, the device’s time zone or a time shift in the app is often set incorrectly.
- Be patient: after the first setup it can take a few minutes until all programme data has loaded.
- Clear the app cache: on Android devices it sometimes helps to clear the app cache and reload the EPG.
Why the EPG is so useful
With thousands of channels it’s easy to lose track. The TV guide shows you at a glance where something interesting is on – without zapping through every channel. Combined with favourites, IPTV becomes just as convenient as classic TV.
